CALL FOR PAPERS

MARGINS, MARGINALIZATION AND THE DISCOURSE OF MARGINALITY

Margin(s) of society, marginalization as a social process, or global marginalization (brought about by European colonization, or/and as well as by localized hegemonic systems), exclusion-inclusion, centre-periphery, marginal experience, new ‘Othering’, have increasingly gained importance in cultural studies and discourse analyses. The recent growing interest in marginal cultures brings forth, besides issues such as culture – power – knowledge, (Michel Foucault), “principles and practices of identity and identification … access and acceptance …and group ideologies” (van Dijk 2000:160), aspects of marginality, referring to the ways in which not only cultures but also “[d]isciplines and discourses exclude and repress certain groups and terms in the construction of dominant and hegemonic patterns.” (Osborne 2002: 176). Within such a frame, the discourse about marginality (involving new topographies) and of marginality (referring to textual and discursive constructs and meanings, dominant readings, new ways of thinking about the social relations, such as feminism, for example) needs to be reconsidered.

The conference seeks to explore the definition of margins and marginalization, as well as the assumptions about the center/margin power structure, as analyzing the phenomenon of marginalization is not only a survey of a unit of society (the margin) but also an examination of the relationship between textual representation and claims to power.

The conference focuses on how such concepts, terms and social processes are put into discourse, on the diverse ways of expressing the state of being marginalized, on the marginality of textual and discursive spaces (such as their silences, subversions, evasions, or resistances), on the plight, place, and role of marginal cultures and identities. It also focuses on how the marginal state is constructed, as well as on the deconstruction of the binary opposition (center – margin) which is seen as a product of cultural negotiations.

Submissions from universities and academia are welcomed.

We welcome individual paper presentations, panels, and posters exploring the topic of margin(alization/ality)s, in the following areas:

The list of questions we hope you will consider includes, but is by no means limited to, the following:

• How can those who have been marginalized speak or write about their marginal experience, as marginal experience itself includes lack of these and other skills considered important by the dominant groups?

• How have the marginalized groups been represented in oral, written and visual cultures?

• How are marginalized bodies treated as disposable objects?

• How are the conditions of marginality performed?

à Papers will be presented in English.

à Papers will de defended in concurrent sessions, in 20 minutes (presentation and discussions).

à Conference fee: 50 € [includes: conference materials, coffee break refreshments, festive dinner, publication of papers (subject to selection by the scientific committee), coffee breaks].

à Travelling and accomodation expenses are covered by participants.

à Deadlines:

o January 20, 2012 – first call for papers;

o February 15, 2012 – second call for papers (with names of confirmed plenary speakers and all information concerning accommodation, meals, payment, and venue);

o March 20, 2012 – deadline for abstracts (maximum 200 words) in English; (including 5 key-words in English) and registration forms; abstracts and registration forms will be sent to: cultural_spaces@ub.ro

All abstracts will be peer-reviewed by the scientific committee of the conference

o April 10, 2012 – confirmation of acceptance and final list of papers accepted;

o April 20, 2012 – deadline for payment of fee;

o CONFERENCE May 10 - 11, 2012 – the final version of the paper (in electronic format) must be handed in to the organizing committee;

o November 15, 2012 – feedback to authors from the scientific committee (after double blind-peer-review);

The paper will be written in Microsoft Word (in English)

Page Format B5; 3cm left, 2 cm right, 2 cm top and bottom

Font: Times New Roman, 11, single, justify.

Paper maximum length: 8 pages (including bibliography).

The first page will contain:

Name and surname of the author(s), TNR 11, top, no blank space, align right, bold

University/affiliation, as first footnote for name and surname (Times New Roman, 10)

Title of the paper, 3 lines extra space below the affiliation (Times New Roman, 12, bold, centred, capital letters);

Abstract of the paper, 2 lines extra space below the title (the title Abstract is written in italics ; the text of the abstract is written with Times New Roman, 11)

Key words (5), one line extra space below the abstract (the key words are written in bold, the other 5 words – in italics, Times New Roman, 11)

Article, one line extra space below the key words

Bibliography should be written at the end of the paper, one line extra space below the text of the article, after the word (TNR 11 bold). Authors should be written in alphabetical order, following the example:

Appel à participation et à contributions

En tant qu’habitants de ce Zeit der Dürftigkeit (Heidegger), temps de la précarité, temps du peu, mais aussi temps de l’interrogativité selon le philosophe roumain Constantin Noica peut-on encore parler de passions ?
Le groupe de recherche Espace(s) de la fiction non seulement répond par l’affirmative mais propose d’en faire un sujet d’étude et d’échanges académiques. On vous invite donc à partager passionnément et lucidement les résultats de vos recherches autour d’un thème extrêmement fécond, qui a incité les psychologues mais avant eux les philosophes (Kant, Descartes, Hume, Hegel, etc.) sans laisser indifférents ni les écrivains (poètes, romanciers, auteurs dramatiques) ni les linguistes. Peut-on envisager la vie affective et spirituelle, les créations esthétiques en dehors des passions ?
La tradition rhétorique, notamment celle aristotélicienne, s’attache à découvrir la nature des passions et des émotions. Pour Aristote, dans sa Rhétorique des passions, la connaissance des passions humaines est indispensable, puisqu’elles permettent d’agir par la parole et susciter une certaine réaction de la part de l’auditeur. Pour certains rhétoriciens, l’appel aux émotions suggère que l’homme est plutôt enclin à se conduire selon ses passions, plus qu’obéir à sa raison. Pascal valorisait, lui aussi, le côté affectif, en pensant que le cœur a ses raisons que la raison ne connaît pas.
Bien qu’héritières d’une tradition tellement riche, la linguistique et la sémiotique actuelles ne s’attachent que d’une façon implicite à l’étude des passions. Cependant, les différentes pistes de recherches qu’elles proposent nous invitent à un réexamen de la place que les passions occupent actuellement.
La réévaluation peut avoir comme point de départ la description lexicale, pour continuer avec la syntaxe affective et aboutir à la pragmatique, dans le but de saisir la nature des actes de langage expressifs, les variations culturelles dans l’expression des émotions, le côté passionnel impliqué dans les interactions verbales. Le vocabulaire des émotions vise à circonscrire le champ lexico-sémantique des termes, l’identification des « pathèmes », unités censées créer des orientations argumentatives.
Sémiotiquement parlant, l’étude de la passion repose sur l’effet de la détermination modale, d’une part, et des déterminations tensives, de l’autre (Cf. J. A. J. Greimas, J. Fontanille, La sémiotique des passions). Le sujet qui s’énonce dans le discours engendre une « énonciation passionnelle » (Cf. Herman Parret, Les passions. Essai sur la mise en discours de la subjectivité).
Les études actuelles portant sur l’argumentation semblent redorer le blason des passions, dans la tentative de démystifier la manipulation de affects et de saisir le rapport entre la dimension axiologique et l’apparition des émotions.
Quand on parle de passions en littérature, on pense à tout ce qui investit la flèche du désir fondatrice de tout système actantiel : passion amoureuse, jalousie, ambition, vengeance, passion du pouvoir, etc. Néanmoins, on ne peut pas ignorer ce que les modernes appellent des « affects » tels la peur ou la pitié d’autant moins les goûts comme la passion du beau ou celle des livres et notamment ce que la société moderne semble avoir oublié, la Passion (celle du Christ). D’autre part, les passions sont des expériences fondatrices de l’interculturel nous permettant, par exemple, de saisir les différences culturelles entre l’Occident et l’Orient.
Plusieurs axes de réflexion sont possibles, et nous en proposons quelques-uns, sans prétendre avoir épuisé les différentes approches possibles :
1. Passions, affects, goûts, vertus. De la philosophie à la psychologie
2. Passions, affects, goûts à travers les littératures
3. Les passions dans la grammaire de la subjectivité (Modalisation et subjectivité affective. L’effet de contagion. La connotation. L’emphase, l’ellipse et les valeurs affectives. La phrase exclamative et l’interjection. Les actes de langage affectifs).
4. La place des émotions dans l’activité argumentative. Le pathos aujourd’hui.
5. La gestion des réactions affectives dans la conversation.
6. L’effet pathémique dans la perspective (inter)culturelle et dans la didactique des langues
7. Sémiotique des passions. Séduction des images.

Cea de-a treia ediţie a „Semnelor particulare” îşi propune să reunească contribuţii provenind din diferite orizonturi de reflecţie: Litere, Istorie, Psihologie şi Sociologie, Ştiinţele comunicării, Ştiinţe economice, contribuind astfel la instituirea unui dialog pluri şi transdiciplinar.
Spaţiile culturale regionale şi naţionale, departe de a se mai constitui în enclave autosuficiente, intră, în epoca globalizării pe care o traversăm, într-un proces de perpetuă comunicare şi redefinire. Construcţia discursivă a identităţii mizează tot mai mult pe strategii complexe, situate la intersecţia unor discipline complementare, precum psihologia, sociologia, ştiinţele educaţiei. Diferenţa dintre Eul liric şi cel social, între cel cu care este desemnat personajul narator şi cel pe care şi-l atribuie autorul e studiată de teoriile literare, poetice, naratologice, de pragmatica ficţiunii. Pe de altă parte, fiinţa, prin calităţile sale constructive percepute ca unitate, nu trebuie interpretată individual, ci, dimpotrivă, drept parte integrantă dintr-o organizaţie socială. Avem în vedere şi faptul că, în acest nou context european al reconsiderării unitatii in diversitate, care impune conservarea mărcilor identitare, in Romania se exprima pregnant ideea responsabilităţii sociale corporatiste, a unei noi identităţi şi imagini cetăţeneşti.
De aceea, în acest an vă propunem, prin tema generală, Spaţii culturale şi identităţi în (inter)acţiune, o confruntare care să aibă drept axă centrală implicaţiile pe care ideile inovatoare din domeniile literaturii, lingvisticii, artelor, istoriei, filosofiei, ştiinţelor comunicării, le-au avut şi le au în procesul de reconstrucţie identitară. Este important să facem cunoscut şi recunoscut faptul că originalitatea, creativitatea, sunt resursa vie şi indispensabilă a acestor transformări. Un pas important a fost făcut odată cu proclamarea, de către Comisia europeană, a anului 2009 drept unul al creativităţii şi inovării. Fără îndoială însă, eficienţa acestui demers trebuie dublată de iniţiative concrete, care să se soldeze cu rezultate consistente si proiecte de cooperare pluri si transdisciplinare, aşa cum aşteptăm să obţinem şi din discuţiile şi confruntările prilejuite de conferinţa noastră..
Dacă perenitatea şi conservarea valorilor culturale reprezintă o condiţie importantă a definirii identităţii individuale şi/sau colective, este esenţial ca noi, specialiştii în ştiinţe socio-umane, să ne angajăm, dintr-o perspectivă interdisciplinară, în identificarea şi analiza resorturilor, implicaţiilor şi potenţialului transformator al noilor forme de dialog intercultural.

- Lucrările vor fi prezentate pe secţiuni. Fiecare lucrare va beneficia de 20 minute (prezentare şi discuţii).

Premier appel à participation


Se proposant d’honorer d’une manière moins conventionnelle le centenaire de la naissance d’Eugène Ionesco, les membres du groupe de recherche Espaces de (la) fiction vous invitent à une réflexion commune sur le discours considéré sub specie ludi. Inspirés par le théâtre non-conformiste du dramaturge roumain qui, s’en prenant aux conventions et aux tabous sociaux et littéraires, en est arrivé à démasquer et dépasser le vide communicationnel par une exploration ludique du langage, nous nous donnons pour but d’identifier et d’analyser les diverses manifestations du jeu dans la langue et la littérature.
Le jeu est, selon Johan Huizinga, l’un des éléments constitutifs de toute forme culturelle, traduisant le désir d’abandonner les réalités du monde quotidien en faveur du monde de la représentation, de l’apparence. L’homo ludens est le dépositaire de l’essence humaine, de cet esprit d’aventure qui aime la spontanéité et la liberté, le hasard et la gratuité. Mais aussi la contrainte, car le jeu est l’exercice d’une certaine liberté qui est garantie par la règle. La langue est un jeu, puisque ses potentialités combinatoires sont illimitées. Quant à la littérature, elle a depuis toujours une relation privilégiée avec le jeu. L’activité poétique est née grâce au jeu lexical et linguistique. Depuis les textes médiévaux – véritables palimpsestes ou mosaïques de citations – jusqu’aux textes modernes d’avant-garde – dont les auteurs conçoivent le travail littéraire comme un bricolage intellectuel, comme une activité qui est à la fois imagination et effort créateur, liberté et contrainte -, le jeu constitue l’un des ressorts privilégiés de la création romanesque. N’oublions pas le jeu qui fonde les rapports entre les trois instances littéraires : auteur, texte, lecteur. La fonction essentielle de la littérature – ainsi que de toute forme artistique – est celle de jeu qui, tout en se servant de vieux matériaux, en arrive à engendrer des formes toujours nouvelles.
